II. TEACHING VOLUNTEERS

The local teaching staff is supplemented by teaching volunteers from different parts of the world, primarily India, who apply to the Haji Public school Volunteer Programme for a commitment of minimum three months. The volunteers move to the village where we provide them boarding and meals, and they become a part of the regular school schedule, handling Class 2 and above. The volunteers come from diverse backgrounds, cultures, fields of work etc. and bring all this to their teaching experience in the classrooms. The students have gained immensely from such early exposure to a variety of faces and cultures and are comfortable with adapting to new people and situations every few months. So far we have hosted volunteers from various parts of India, Canada, South Africa, Singapore and Paris. We find young men and women from India most suited to the teaching programme at HPS because of their familiarity with the local language, culture, and schooling and teaching system that works in our part of the world.
